About Us
Are You Ready To Be Enchanted?
A Witch has left the woods, speeding off to Merlin’s castle, ready for some crazy music rituals. What is this about? Founded by Merlin in London, TurboWitch is an international project of music witchery. Together with his fellow witches, wizards and magicians from all over the world, they explore the mysteries of life and celebrate its ups and downs in their music rituals.
The Holy Quest is to take all the fear & joy, pain & love, darkness & dreams, sorrows & hopes you come across in life, put them into the cauldron and transform them into something new. This is done by rituals that are high-energetic ceremonies of just as many magic ingredients: Rock, Goth, Grunge, Indie, Bossa Nova, Metal and Blues, weddings of emotive melodies and relentless rhythms, demonic guitars and angelic vocals, dark bass lines and wild drums.
These rituals have taken the TurboWitch coven across the British Isles, to Europe, and even beyond, to Japan, where they celebrated their first record ‘Violent Muse’across six major cities in the land of the Rising Sun.

Alchemy [ creating something magical, out of crazy ingredients in dangerous
experiments ]

Music
[ Putting together joy, pain, frustration, sorrows, fear, hope, love, and death. Grunge, Rock, Goth, Blues, Jazz, Pop / Dark guitars and sweet vocals, smooth
bass lines and wild drums. This is what Merlin did ]
Alchemy = creating something magical, out of crazy ingredients in dangerous experiments. Like putting together joy, pain, frustration, sorrows, fear, hope, love, and death. Grunge, Rock, Goth, Blues, Jazz, Pop. Dark guitars and sweet vocals, smooth bass lines and wild drums. This is what Merlin did once he had all ingredients together, especially when he found his sound wizards and musical witches. Put all together and see what happens: songs full of light and dark, about love, death, live with its ups and downs. This way TurboWitch’s ‘Alchemy’ uses five tarot cards to chaos, then the sudden urge to break free, reaching for your highest – from the dark to not something you can put into a few words, but something you should experience and feel.

Changes and Initiations
“Follow the Witch” started as something simple because Merlin wanted to see how many colours he could get out of a simple A minor chord, exploring every little change of mood possible. We quickly noticed the simple things can be the trickiest & most mystical, and with the lyrics added by the Morrigan, every little change of mood in this track explores the feelings you undergo when you experience something deeply changing you, like an initiation into something new, raw, unknown, which seems dark and scary first – but you cannot resist. Don’t want your world turned upside down, then don’t “Follow the Witch”.

The Hanged Man
When life has unexpectedly pulled the rug out from under your feet, all the things you foolishly took for granted, and uncertainty leaves you dangling upside down forcing you to have a new perspective. Yes, ‘one door closes – another one opens‘, but they forgot to tell you how painful that letting go can be. That’s why this bluesy hook is chased by an exploding grungy riff: alone, cold, and your inner fears want to be heard – every single note based on true events. There is only one thing for sure in all that uncertainty – you gotta leave and find the right place for you, like now.

The Lovers
The title inspired by a cheesy vampire B-movie, “Midnight Kiss” began with a little Tori-Amos inspired melody on the guitar, followed by some jazzy chords and soon one led to the other: Open chords to carry the mysterious, sexy mood of this tune. Passionate lyrics for the night. Forbidden love to be witnessed by the Moon. Love hidden during the day to be revealed in the moon light. This song was written during the hungry dark of night – and maybe is enjoyed best after nightfall because … what could be more magical than passionate Midnight Kisses under the moonlight.

The Devil
Ever felt stuck in a loop? Just as life was being really harsh and Merlin unexpectedly had one peaceful afternoon for a change, this track came to being as a quick filler, a simple, basic, bluesy jingle in sweet G minor about how hard life can be. But why actually? Isn’t it often we ourselves making things complicates? Traditionally a bluesman sells his soul to the Devil, but we wear chains already when we knock at the Devil’s door, don’t we. Especially when love has entered the party. How nice things could be if we just took these chains off …
PS: As Lucifer Morningstar uses to say: the doors are never locked. It’s up to us to take off these chains …

The Tower
Ready for some un/planned demolition works? One of our first tracks, born out of the moment when so-called friends let you down when you really need them because they are too busy blaming everyone else (but are happy to use you and then drop you once you are totally drained). A dirty, grungy riff for the suppressed anger, and the wah for the long-overdue outbursts, a solo screaming for justice, while you are ready to burn down all those lies because you are not done yet, not this time. Remind me, what’s the quickest way of taking down a tower …

When Love and Death Unite
When once again everything seemed to be pointless, and doomed, Merlin found solace in a lesser-known Alice in Chains classic. Inspired, Merlin tried to recreate this bittersweet feeling with only two simple chords, just like in this AIC track. A live-long fascination with the Doors ‘The End’ once resulted in Merlin creating a lil’ jingle. As both pieces of music share the same mood, he combined them which opened the door … but to what? Once the lyrics came, they brought in the missing magic substance: LOVE! And the alchemical reaction was unstoppable, still is.
PS: Despite the fact that Tilda Swinton is one of Merlin’s all-time favourite actresses, the lyrics are not inspired by the movie ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’ at all … are they?
